Portraits in Vermillion

By Jacob Silkstone

Mother gave birth on the porch that night.

Something red raw and hardly human.

But it clung and screamed with all its might,

and clawed wildly at the sky and all the stars.

Somehow whole but for most part created

incompatible and incomplete.

Demanding answers to promises,

that the world will never keep.
