always devoured the daal
like a starving animal, thick fingers
yellowed with turmeric pinching
the steaming naan, over-ripened
lips slick with the juices of burst
lentils. Afterward, you did the same
to me, tearing at my flesh, hungry
and never sated. For years
I watched you suck and lap
up everything laid before you
and I realized I would never be
enough to satisfy you.
