In Mary’s time here, it was
a reading room. There were days
I would come & scour campus
for her. I waylaid her one frozen
morning on her way to Bacon Hall
French class & we had a brief scene.
Another afternoon, I found her in
this crowded room reading. I
never approached her. But we sat
a while in easy chairs at opposite
corners of the room. I read Faust
& was simply relieved by her presence.
